There are many successful Lao-Americans who inspire our youth, way too many to count. This post is the first of a series of which notable Lao-Americans who the youth look up to will be recognized. Whether it’s a fashion designer or an MMA fighter, they all aid and motivate more Laotians to become leaders.
Chloe Dao is the season 2 winner of Project Runway. After her victory, she opened up a fashion business with her own designs, called DAO Chloe DAO. Her very own boutique is located in Houston, Texas and is actually very popular in that region. She designs garments ranging in styles from casual to bridal. Chloe a very honorable, strong, and inspiring woman for people all over the world and especially affects our Lao youth, showing us how far we can get if we work hard at our passions.
Also known as the “Asian Sensation”, Andre Soukhamthath, just recently signed with UFC and he is the first Lao-American to join! He’s 28 years old and was born and raised in Rhode Island. He’s an unbelievable competitor, winning 11 out of 14 matches. Andre tears down any stereotypes of Asian-Americans and their masculinity and showcases an exceptional amount of strength.
